Clinical Negligence in Mental Health: Empowerment & Intervention

13 May 2010, Manchester Conference Centre

The Mental Health Act (MHA) came into force in 2007 introducing legislation and guidelines for the welfare of the mental health patient.  There has also been increasing awareness and entitlement issues as a result of the Rabone and Savage cases.  AvMA’s new Clinical Negligence in Mental Health conference will inform the clinical negligence practitioner on the latest procedure and considerations of Mental Health Trusts, the rights of the patient and medical interventions associated with patient care.

Community Care, anti-depressants, suicidality, common areas of negligence and medico-legal issues surrounding drug addiction will also be discussed.  The interplay between the Mental Capacity Act, Mental Health Act and Deprivation of Liberty will be a key feature of the programme, essential knowledge for legal practitioners and healthcare professionals wanting to represent their client in the best possible way whilst gaining an insight into the operation of the MHA.
