27 July 2007 : DARTMOOR CONQUERED IN AID OF AvMA
AVMA Dartmoor Challenge Saturday 21st July 8 and 15 miles
On a day when the weather defeated the majority of potential walkers for the BTTJ avma sponsored walk, heroes emerged.Tom Barnes from Brindley Twist Taft and James, set off no less than three times - first by train, then by car on 20th and then by car again at 4 am on the 21st - only to be met with floodwater and frustration. The legendary Cheadle- (Patirck) setting off by car a little earlier travlelled via the South Route from Coventry and after 10 hours of diversions, floods and rain made it into Devon. The walk leaders Jane ( Rogers) and Cath Vincent from London could not get out of Paddington but made it via car some 6 hours later. The walk was wonderful- hard boggy, tussock ridden but beautiful Dartmoor- only the strongest made this walk and we are delighted to givei credit to Terry Leigh from Russell Cooke Solicitors, who made the 8 mile walk, led by Dr Hugh Gregg and his wife Eve, look easy.Hearty congratulations to Denise Stephens from Hart Brown and of course to the Cheadle himself both of whom did the 15 miles. The photographs (taken by me) from Lints Tor and Cranmere Pool prove that only the fittest survive and AVMA should know that the 15 mile walk took 8 hours of hard walking because weather conditions - anyone who has sponsored these winners should double their comittment and their legal opponents should beware!! - this was tough stuff, rigorously demanding and these people dont give up!! Dr Adrian Rogers - still stiff!!
