Rita Lewis
As well as being Chair of AvMA, Rita is currently the interim Chair of NHS Eastbourne Downs & Weald. Rita has also carried out extensive voluntary work representing patient views and is a Consultant in Health Policy and a part-time Social/Public Policy lecturer. Rita and her family have direct experience of being affected by medical accidents. Her current public appointments include being a Lay member of the General Chiropractic Council, Law Disciplinary Panellist for the Nursing and Midwifery Council and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, Non-Executive Director and Deputy Chair ''Optical Consumer Complaints Service'' and from April 2004 Chair of the British Acupuncture Accreditation Board. Previously, Rita has experience of being an NHS trust non-executive director, taking particular interest in clinical governance / patient safety issues. Rita has been Chair of AvMA since September 2003.
