Volunteering Opportunities
Volunteer work placements wanted for our Helpline Service
AvMA is delighted to announce that it has been successfully awarded a further development grant from the Big Lotteries Fund to extend our public helpline service. This will enable AvMA to extend the hours of service and increase the number of advisors on the line, thus giving people affected by medical accidents easier access to a sympathetic, well informed advisor who can understand what they are going through and help them identify the next steps to address their needs. We are inviting short term work placements to volunteer for our helpline which is manned by a combination of volunteers and permenent staff. Volunteering for the helpline can provide greater awareness of the complaints system and help to gain a clearer understanding of the clients' perspective. We currently have 25 regular volunteers with legal or medical backgrounds who have found the experience to be extremely helpful when dealing with clients back at their place of work. A training programme will be tailored to meet the volunteers' needs which would include modules on complaints procedures, AvMA's core induction programme and helpline skills training. Opportunities are available to get involved with research projects and written casework. Qualified or trainee solicitors or other staff are welcome. Please contact Gillian Savage, Helpline Development Officer.
