Peter is best known to many as the Chief Executive of AvMA for 20 years, until his retirement in 2022. This award recognises his tireless commitment to patient safety and justice, and his unwavering dedication to AvMA and to the many patients and families he personally supported during his tenure.
During his time as Chief Executive, Peter was involved in numerous high-profile cases and public inquiries, where he consistently championed the need for change and improvements in healthcare on behalf of those whose lives had been avoidably harmed by failures in patient safety.
Since retiring from AvMA in 2022, Peter has remained closely connected to the charity. He continues to contribute as a volunteer, helping to develop a Harmed Patient Pathway, and serves as an Associate Editor of the Journal of Patient Safety and Risk Management. He also provides independent training and consultancy services to healthcare providers.
Peter’s MBE is a fitting tribute to a career devoted to justice and compassion, reflecting the lasting impact of his work on patient safety – and he continues to inspire all of us at AvMA
