Policy and campaigns

Downing Street sign

AvMA’s policy and campaign priorities are informed by the daily contact we have with people whose lives have been devastated by avoidable harm in healthcare.

The help and support we provide directly to individuals is at the heart of what we do. However, we can help far more people by using our experience and expertise to influence policy and practice:

  • to improve patient safety and reduce medical accidents
  • to ensure access to justice for people who have suffered when there are lapses in patient safety

We are committed to working in partnership with health professionals, the NHS, government departments, lawyers, and fellow patient organisations in pursuit of our goals but we are not afraid to speak out when we disagree.

We provide a well informed independent patient perspective in various forums and consultations concerning patient safety or justice.

We are strictly non-political and our policy and campaigning only covers issues relevant to our mission to improve patient safety and justice.
