Published: 4 Feb 2026
Categories: Latest | ResearchAs a charity dedicated to providing free, confidential advice, information and support to people who have experienced adverse outcomes as a result of their medical care or care provided to a loved one, AvMA is very aware of the number of people who have experienced unsatisfactory maternity and neonatal care. While it is true, that most maternity care is safe, when it goes wrong the consequences can be devastating. There have been many high-profile reports on maternity related issues in England, over the last 10 years, the latest review is being led by Baroness Amos and aims to:
- Develop and publish one set of national recommendations to drive improvements in maternity and neonatal care across England
- Reduce inequalities and promote fairer access to maternity and neonatal services
- Help bereaved and harmed families receive justice and accountability in the future.
The Review is encouraging people to share their personal experience of the maternity and neonatal system, women, fathers and birthing partners are invited to participate.
Have you experienced a poor or adverse outcome at any stage of your maternity care or, your baby’s neonatal journey?
Have you or your baby been harmed during the delivery of maternity and neonatal care?
Have you found the system unfair?
Were you treated differently when using maternity and/or neonatal services because of your social and/or economic situation? Did you experience discrimination because of your race, colour, religion?
If the answer to any or all of the above questions is yes, then you may want to share your experience with the National Maternity and Neonatal Investigation Team. Please click on this poster for details of how to get in touch with the Team.
