Trustee and Associate Trustees

An exciting opportunity to make a difference to patient safety and justice

Action against Medical Accidents (AvMA) is the national UK charity for patient safety and justice, providing free advice and support to thousands of people each year who have been affected by avoidable harm in healthcare. We provide practical advice and support to patients and families who are harmed and use our influence to campaign for improvements in patient safety. We are expanding our Board and wish to recruit new strategically minded Trustees and provide development opportunities to Associate Trustees to join us, with the aim of becoming a Trustee after 12 months with a programme of mentoring and support.

Trustee Vacancy

You will have expertise and knowledge in one of the following areas:

  • Public relations and social media communications experience to support our campaigning work
  • An accountancy qualification (ICAEW/ACCA) with experience of finance (and ideally investments)
  • Business development and income generation

We take equality and diversity very seriously, and particularly wish to hear from black and minority ethnic candidates, younger people and people with disabilities as these groups are under-represented on our Board. We are also keen to welcome those with personal or family lived experience of medical harm.

Time Commitment

The AvMA Boards meets four times a year, has an annual away day and we also encourage Trustees to take an active part in Working Groups and Sub-Committees and undertake other activities from time to time, such as representing AvMA at events. All told, the time commitment is around 10-12 days per year.

The roles are not remunerated but travel and other expenses are paid, and Trustees may attend AvMA’s conferences and other training events free of charge.

We hope you will join us at this exciting time, as we build on our many achievements and develop our next five-year strategy.
