Investigation into brain and other injuries at birth

Support and advice if your baby has suffered an injury during their birth.

We’re here to support you

If your baby has been injured because of the care you received during your child’s birth, you might be feeling scared, confused, and unsure where to turn. We’re here to support and guide you through what is happening and what steps you can take.

Concerned about a potential brain injury?

We can support you if you’re worried that your baby has suffered harm at an NHS or private hospital during birth. These concerns might include lack of oxygen during birth (hypoxia), suffering HIE, being given therapeutic cooling or being investigated for a brain injury.

Other injuries at birth

If you’re worried about other maternal or birth-related injuries besides brain injuries, such a serious tear you have suffered or an injury to the baby such as fractures or other injuries, submit a new case to Avma and choose the option of ‘an adverse outcome following medical treatment which you or a family member has received’.

One of our friendly, specially trained advisers will support you through how to get onto our system and be connected with a caseworker. You can also use our self-help guides below, which explain in detail some of what might be happening.
