Almost every firm in the UK with a clinical negligence specialism now enjoys annual membership of our service.

For solicitor firms, there are many reasons to join Avma’s Lawyers Service. Here are just some of the benefits you’ll receive with your annual membership:

  • Access to our medical experts database: Membership entitles you to request medical experts for your case from our database of over 500 experts. Our team will endeavour to recommend up to two relevant experts for each medical speciality required. Click here to find out more about our database.
  • Free regular updates and our newsletter: Lawyers Service members are kept up to date with email news alerts about relevant issues of importance. You’ll also receive our Lawyers Service newsletter, published up to three times a year, which features information and articles on clinical negligence practice, procedures, medico-legal and policy issues.
  • Access to two webinars a year: Every member firm will receive access to two Avma webinars each year. These sessions are organised by our Events & Conferences Team and cover a variety of useful topics related to clinical negligence practice and policy.
  • Discounts on training and conferences: Lawyers Service members enjoy discounts on our in-person conferences and training events, including the UK’s largest clinical negligence conference for legal professionals, the Avma Annual Clinical Negligence Conference, and other one-day conferences and training for legal professionals.

  • Use of the Avma Lawyers Service membership logo: As a subscriber, you are entitled to display the Avma Lawyers Service membership logo on your website in accordance with our terms and conditions. This helps demonstrate to clients and partners your firm’s commitment to supporting people with clinical negligence claims.
  • Discounted listing on our Find a Solicitor database: Avma Lawyers Service members can also access a 50% discount on any applications for listing on our Find a Solicitor database, which is designed to help claimants find specialist clinical negligence solicitors. Firms in Scotland and the Republic of Ireland who are subscribed to Lawyers Service can have a listing for free, subject to the Scottish and Irish Codes of Conduct.

Membership fees

Solicitor membership of Avma’s Lawyer Service is managed on an annual basis, with a subscription fee payable for each tax year (1 April – 31 March). New firms can join between April and December, with rates applied pro rata according to the relevant fees list below.

Subscription rates are calculated according to the number of managers at each firm (to include all managers, not just those practising clinical negligence), defined according to the Solicitors Regulatory Authority: “’Manager’ means the sole principal in a recognised sole practice; a member of a UK limited liability partnership; a director of a company; a partner in a partnership that is not a body corporate; or, in relation to any other body, a member of its governing body.”

Fees for firms in England, Wales and Northern Ireland

Current annual membership fees based on number of managers:

  • 1–3 managers: £2,276.96 per year (£1,897.46 + £379.50 VAT)
  • 4–9 managers: £3,252.45 per year (£2,710.38 + £542.07 VAT)
  • 10–40 managers: £4,770.31 per year (£3,975.26 + £795.05 VAT)
  • 41–60 managers: £5,192.36 per year (£4,326.97 + £865.39 VAT)
  • 61–89 managers: £5,615.77 per year (£4,679.81 + £935.96 VAT)
  • 90+ managers: £6,126.15 per year (£5,105.13 + £1,021.02 VAT)
  • New startup sole practitioner: £1,575.38 per year (£1,312.82 + £262.56 VAT)
Fees for firms in Scotland and the Republic of Ireland

Current annual membership fees based on number of managers:

  • 1–3 managers: £1,196.22 per year (£996.85 + £199.37 VAT)
  • 4–9 managers: £1,545.67 per year (£1,288.06 + £257.61 VAT)
  • 10–40 managers: £2,160.45 per year (£1,800.38 + £360.07 VAT)
  • 41–60 managers: £2,421.45 per year (£2,017.88 + £403.57 VAT)
  • 61–89 managers: £2,859.36 per year (£2,382.80 + £476.56 VAT)
  • 90+ managers: £3,311.73 per year (£2,759.78 + £551.95 VAT)
  • New startup sole practitioner: £758.31 per year (£631.93 + £126.38 VAT)
