The essential quality mark for clinical negligence practitioners

Avma has been providing advice and support to people who have experienced avoidable medical harm for over 40 years. As part of our work putting patients and their families first, we established the UK’s first accreditation scheme for clinical negligence lawyers, the Specialist Clinical Negligence Panel. Today, it is recognised across the legal sector as the leading quality mark for clinical negligence practitioners.

Accreditation through the Avma Specialist Clinical Negligence Panel is available to clinical negligence lawyers practising in England, Wales and Northern Ireland who place clients at the centre of their practice, are prepared to go the extra distance to support their clients, and share Avma’s broader aims and objectives on patient safety and justice.

Recognition of firms practising in Scotland and the Republic of Ireland

While Specialist Clinical Negligence Panel accreditation is only available to firms practising in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, Avma recognises specialist clinical negligence lawyers practising in Scotland and the Republic of Ireland through their commitment to our Lawyers Service Codes of Conduct.

Panel accreditation

New members

Avma is keen to support specialist clinical negligence practitioners to ensure that patients and families affected by avoidable medical harm continue to have access to informed, client-focused representation and guidance.

Panel accreditation is available to lawyers who are a minimum six years’ PQE. Contact our team for a confidential, informal chat about the type of experience we’re looking for and any queries you have about meeting the criteria.

Reaccreditation

To ensure that Panel members continue to work in line with current best practice, reaccreditation is required every five years. This ensures that all Panel members are maintaining the high standards required of Avma accredited lawyers.

If you’re an existing member of the Avma Specialist Clinical Negligence Panel, we will contact you regarding reaccreditation when your membership is due for renewal.

Honorary membership

Honorary membership is awarded to select former Panel members who have stepped back from frontline clinical negligence practice, but are committed to having a continuing role in promoting the interests of people affected by avoidable medical harm. This membership enables senior lawyers to continue to contribute their knowledge and expertise to Avma in the interests of patients and their families.

Want to be listed as an accredited solicitor?

Firms with an accredited Panel member can apply to be listed on our Find a Solicitor database, which allows people affected by avoidable medical harm to find practitioners to approach for legal assistance regarding their case and potential claim for compensation.
