Raising concerns about a healthcare worker

How to raise a concern about a specific healthcare professional to the right regulatory body.

Who’s to blame?

Most lapses in patient safety are because of organisation or system failures, rather than any single person being to blame. Sometimes, however, the behaviour or competence of an individual medical professional can also compromise safety.

Referring to a regulatory body

If you believe that the conduct of an individual healthcare professional was inappropriate, concerning, or dangerous, you might want to report this to the relevant regulatory body. The Professional Standards Authority provides a full list of regulatory bodies.

Alternatively, the guides in this section explain how you can raise concerns about different types of medical professionals, and the circumstances in which it might be appropriate to do so.
