Any lawyer experienced in clinical negligence work knows that medico-legal experts are central to the success or failure of a case. Avma’s comprehensive medical expert database includes over 500 experts covering more than 120 areas of medical speciality.
Our medical experts database is unique. Practitioners cannot pay to be included on our listings — instead, each expert is vetted by our experienced in-house staff, all of whom have backgrounds as either clinical negligence lawyers or healthcare professionals.
Experts on Avma’s database must meet our minimum standards of suitability, with at least five years’ medical experience at consultant level and valid registration of their relevant regulatory body (e.g. GMC or NMC). Experts should also have experience of accepting instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors, and as part of their application we assess their medico-legal report writing skills by reviewing a redacted version of a report they have recently compiled.

You can make unlimited requests for medical experts as part of your membership. Simply head to the Avma Portal and submit your request.
Non-members: Make a one-off request for medical experts
For legal professionals who are not members of our Lawyers Service, there is a charge of £100 plus £20 VAT (VAT not payable by those based in the Republic of Ireland) for a one-off medical expert request. We will recommend up to two experts for a single medical speciality; if you need experts in other specialities, an additional charge of £60 (plus £12 VAT) per speciality will be charged.
To make your request, you will need to sign up to the Avma Portal. Simply click the button below and sign up using your work email address. After you’ve logged in, go to ‘New Medical Expert Request’ and submit your request. A member of our team will review your request and respond with up to two recommended experts.
Please note: Our service provides you with the contact details of experts upon payment of our fee. However, we are unable to guarantee that any experts we refer will accept your instruction.
