Michele Salter

Trustee & Treasurer
Michele is an accountant with three decades of board-level experience spanning acute, mental health, and community care. Driven by personal experience with avoidable harm, she serves as Avma’s treasurer, combining extensive financial expertise with a passion for tackling health inequalities.

About Michele

Michele began her NHS career in 1984 as a clerk and went on to qualify as a Chartered Public Finance Accountant. She progressed to Director of Finance level, and over three decades has worked across acute, mental health, community, and primary care organisations.

Michele has extensive experience of leading people and organisations through change, including healthcare provider mergers, transition to foundation trust status, and the movement of services from acute to community settings. She has served on NHS boards across the UK, including Director of Finance roles in London, Hertfordshire, Essex, and Lincolnshire.

Alongside her professional career, Michele has been an active volunteer for a range of charitable causes. She was Chair of the Sickle Cell Society UK until 2025 and is passionate about tackling health inequalities that negatively affect people from minority ethnic backgrounds.

Having experienced the loss of a loved one as a result of avoidable medical harm, Michele is proud to support the work of Avma as a trustee. As treasurer, she brings substantial expertise in financial, capital, and management accounting to the board.
