Michele Salter

Trustee & Treasurer
Michele is an accountant with three decades of board-level experience spanning acute, mental health, and community care. Driven by personal experience with avoidable harm, she serves as Avma’s treasurer, combining extensive financial expertise with a passion for tackling health inequalities.

About Michele

Michele first joined the NHS in 1984 as a clerk. After qualifying as a Chartered Public Finance Accountant, she worked her way through the ranks to Director of Finance level. Her career spanned three decades across a variety of health settings including acute, mental health, community, and primary care organisations.

Michele has a strong history of leading people through change management, including healthcare provider mergers, transitioning to foundation trust status, and migrating services from acute to community settings. She has served on NHS boards across the UK including Director of Finance roles in Hertfordshire, London, Essex, and Lincolnshire.

Alongside her professional career, Michele has always been an active volunteer for a variety of charitable causes. She was Chair of the Sickle Cell Society UK until 2025 and is passionate about addressing the known health inequalities that negatively impact people of Black African and Caribbean heritage.

Sadly, Michele has experienced losing a loved one as a result of avoidable harm, but she is now delighted to support the work of Avma as a trustee. She brings her extensive experience in financial, capital, and management accounting to the board in her role as treasurer.
