Jocelyn Cornwell, Chair
Jocelyn is the founder of The Point of Care Foundation, an independent not-for profit that works to make healthcare more human, for patients and staff. She originally trained as a medical sociologist and ethnographer and spent her career working in and around the NHS. She has worked in NHS management, as a locality manager; as a senior civil servant in the Department of Health and in regulation, first at the Audit Commission, where she directed national value for money studies, and later at the Commission for Health Improvement where she led the design of the first UK inspections of clinical governance in the NHS and acted as Chief Executive.
She has served as a trustee of a number of charities, including Connect UK, the communication disability network; the Picker Institute; the Mental Health Foundation and most recently, the Nuffield Trust.
Her first hand knowledge of the devastating and lasting impact of serious medical error within her own family led her to join AvMA as a trustee. Her interests lie in transforming the way healthcare organisations treat patients and families who suffer harm and improving support for staff who are involved in such incidents.
