Liz Thomas

Policy & Research Manager

Liz joined AvMA in 1989. During her time at AvMA, Liz has been involved in all aspects of AvMA’s work. Having spent the first two years working almost exclusively on the telephone responding to enquiries from patients, Liz then moved on to head up the casework department.

As Policy & Research Manager, Liz is responsible in conjunction with the Chief Executive, for developing and promoting AvMA’s policy work, and has a particular interest in patient safety in obstetrics.

One of Liz’s other key roles is overseeing the administration of the AvMA Specialist Clinical Negligence Panel, a highly respected accreditation scheme for specialist lawyers.

Liz has given talks and written articles on a range of topics including client care, NHS complaints and medical accidents within the independent healthcare sector.

She jointly edited a consumer’s book, ‘The Medical Accidents Handbook – A Practical Guide for Patients and their Advisors’ with Paul McNeil of Field Fisher.
